The Coope San Juan Project is a small rural community located in the Northern Region of Costa Rica, in La Gloria de Aguas Zarcas de San Carlos. This small community is surrounded by pineapple plantations, forests under conservation, rivers and small lagoons. Here, a true community-based rural tourism is offered, where people live in harmony with nature, and the community is involved in productive and efficient labor, while respecting the natural environment. The Project seeks an appropriate management of natural resources, as well as to motivate community participation and provide the visitors with the possibility to spend time with the peasant families.
The volunteer program is an opportunity to support the development of the community of Coopesanjuan as well as environmental conservation through direct technical and financial cooperation from the volunteers through coordinated programs.
The environmental program provides the volunteer with basic knowledge about conservation processes and how to take care of the natural environment. Through this Program the volunteers will have direct contact with the natural environment surrounding them.
The social program provides the volunteer with basic knowledge on the local culture and uses the volunteer’s knowledge to generate new skills among the local population. Through this Program the volunteer will have direct contact with the members of the community, as well as with the tourism Project of the Cooperative and spend time with a local family while staying with them during the entire Program.
